PERP I GNAN
With its central location on a narrow
lane in a pedestrianised area on the
edge of the old quarter, close to the
shops and restaurants on Quai Sébastien
Vauban, the friendly two-star Hotel de la
Loge makes the perfect base for a break
in Perpignan. It’s small with clean rooms
in either traditional or modern decor and
friendly service – and it’s competitively
priced, too. A wrought-iron staircase
leads from the reception area to the 22
rooms over two floors. There’s a small
bar-restaurant and a patio and garden
to relax in, and continental breakfast is
served in the mornings.
PALMA MALLORCA
Part of the Es Baluard Modern Art
Museum, Restaurant Es Baluard
offers good food in attractive
surroundings, with tables on a
large terrace with views across the
Mediterranean. The menu includes
artichokes with ibérico ham and foie
shavings and tuna tataki with wasabi
mayonnaise, as well as dishes like
seafood pasta or mushroom risotto with
white truffle oil, or steak tartar, magret of
duck with noodles, wild red tuna or cod
fillet with roasted vegetables. The dessert
menu includes chocolate brownie,
carrot cake or chocolate cake.

To mark the 10th anniversary of
Michael Jackson’s death, the Grand
Palais is putting on Michael Jackson:
On the Wall, Le dossier pédagogique, a
major exhibition from 23rd November that
examines the contribution of the world’s
most famous pop singer to the creative
arts over the past 30 years, and features
works on loan by a number of artistes.

RODEZ
For some watery family fun, head
for the Aquavallon Aquatic Centre.
There’s a leisure pool with geysers,
waterfalls, a counter-current stream
and swan-neck jets, plus an area for
toddlers with a whole range of water jets
and a water slide. As well as swimming,
adults can keep fit in the cardio-training
room, weights room, rowing machine,
bikes, running mats and stepper. Then,
enjoy all the benefits of the hammam,
Jacuzzi, sauna and a rest area with music.
Admission is €5.25 for adults and €3.75 for
children; kids three and under are free.
PRAGUE
Still a relative newcomer, the
boutique Cosmopolitan Hotel makes
a glamorous impression, from the
uniformed doorman at the entrance,
to the lobby’s white marble floor and
mirrored walls. It offers comfortable rooms
in muted colours and a convenient
location. There’s the Next Door restaurant,
by celebrity Chef Zdenek Pohlreich,
which provides a modern take on Czech
cuisine as well as hearty, American-style
breakfasts in the mornings. Book an
executive room or suite direct and you’ll
receive a free bottle of sparkling wine!
RENNES
For something a little different, head
to Forêt Adrénaline Rennes adventure
park. They have treetop trails to suit
different ages and abilities, from two-
year-olds to adults. If you’re feeling brave,
you can also try out their new attraction,
the TrampÔforest, where you leap and
bounce on a giant net suspended nine
metres above the ground. As well as the
activities, you can climb trees and picnic.
A 2.5-hour session in the adventure park
costs €22 for an adult (14+).
