ROME F I UMI C I NO

Feeling thirsty? Make your way to

craft brewery Doppio Malto on via

Poli, not far from the Trevi Fountain.

It’s a gastropub styled with exposed pipes,

rust-coloured tables and walls and a

copper-lined bar, creating a warm interior.

There’s a varied menu, ranging from bar

snacks such as fried aubergine, onion rings

or panzerotti, to foccacia with various

fillings, burgers, spare ribs, lasagne, salads

and a kids’ menu, too. Try their special

beer-infused capon (

galletto alla birra

)

with oven-cooked potato wedges. Of

course you can’t leave without sampling

one or two of the 15 Doppio Malto house

beers they brew here.

SOUTHAMPTON

As a major port, Southampton’s past and present is indelibly linked to the sea, and its

impressive SeaCity Museum has many fascinating stories to tell. One of them is all about

the Titanic disaster – more than 500 local families lost a loved one. In Southampton’s

Titanic Story you can find out about this, hear oral testimony from the survivors and see

a pocket watch found on the body of a steward and an original life jacket. Another

permanent exhibition, Gateway to the World, explores who came to Southampton and why

– from Roman traders to Victorian industrialists. Alongside this, the museum presents rolling

exhibitions and a varied programme of events. On the first Saturday of the month visitors (12

and over) can also take the clock tower tour and climb its 200 steps. Afterwards, drop into

The Gallery café for a light lunch or refreshing drink.

The w brings 120 years of automotive

history to life. There are 1500 exhibits –

including 160 vehicles – that illustrate

the development of the automobile

from the first horseless carriage to the

modern limousine. Exhibits include the

very first Daimler dating back to 1886,

the legendary Silver Arrow, and the
