Business Focus

Nobody is immune to negative

emotions and feelings – the

problem is getting stuck there.

The difference between

someone who takes minutes to

get over hurt feelings vs. someone

who takes hours or days can be

the difference between someone

with potential for greatness and a

proven superstar. You simply can’t

do your best work if you are caught

in negative thought loops!

We can use our body as a tool

to change our mind and internal

state. With my clients, we use

power posing (standing tall, taking

up space, which reduces cortisol

and boosts testosterone), dancing

(which moves your lymph – your

body’s waste removal system), and

deep breathing (which brings the

parasympathetic nervous system

out of fight or flight mode) to

change our physiology and reset

our state. Then you can choose

the thoughts and feelings that

serve you.

I created a five-minute

compassion, confidence, and

presence-boosting meditation

for my clients, but you can try

this right now in your seat on the

plane:

1. For Presence.

Close your eyes

and take three deep breaths. Feel

your breath go in and out. Listen

to the sounds around you. Feel

your clothing on your body. Feel

your toes in your shoes. This

places you physically in your body

in the present.

2. For Compassion.

Think of an

all-loving entity such as the Buddha,

Jesus, Mother Teresa, your mum,

or your puppy dog, that has warm

affection for you. Feel howmuch

they care about you and forgive you

for any mistakes you have made.

Feel them completely accepting

everything about you.

3. For Confidence.

Think of a

time or several when you did a

good deed or helped someone. A

time when you were a success or

did something really well. Replay

that experience in your mind

– who were you being at your

greatest moments?
