For a taste of culture, head for
Hyacinthe Rigaud Fine Arts Museum.
Here you can see works by Picasso,
Maillol, Dufy, Terrus and by local painter
Hyacinthe Rigaud himself. The museum’s
collection is divided into eras, with a
Gothic room covering the 13th-16th
centuries – during the 13th and 14th
centuries, Perpignan was the King of
Majorca’s mainland capital. The baroque
room features works by Rigaud and
Brueghel. The late 19th century heralded
the arrival of the railway and the Belle
Epoque, reflected in the Perpignan room,
with works by Maillol, Dufy and Picasso.
PALMA MALLORCA
Immerse yourself in a beautiful
underground world at Cuevas del
Drach in Portocristo. Following a
1,200-metre path you’ll see intriguingly-
named stalactites and stalagmites,
such as the Virgin of the Cave, Saint
Anthony of Padua, and Venus of the
Nile. There’s also Lake Martel, one
of the world’s largest underground
lakes. While in the lake chamber
you’ll enjoy a concert performed by
musicians on three illuminated boats,
and a boat trip across the lake.

Rock fans can look forward to the
now-legendary Rock en Seine festival,
which takes place just outside Paris,
at the Parc National de Saint-Cloud from
23rd-25th August. All styles of rock are
represented, from Punk to Britpop. Expect
major international bands alongside some
of the freshest talents of tomorrow.
