A line-up of 80 breweries from the UK
and around the world will descend on
Tobacco Dock in Wapping from 9th-
11th August for the three-day London
Craft Beer Festival. Close to 500
different beers will be on tap across
the weekend, making it the biggest
celebration of modern beer to date.
Manning the taps and pouring their
finest brews over the weekend will be
the likes of New York-based breweries
Evil Twin, Kings County Brewing
Collective, and Interboro, while new
European breweries pouring in London
for the first time include Brasserie
Popihn from central France and
Cerveja Letra hailing from Portugal.
Flying the flag for the burgeoning
UK craft beer scene will be Northern
Veteran broadcaster and journalist
Michael Parkinson will be appearing
at the Jersey Festival of Words this
September.
An Evening with Sir Michael
Parkinson will celebrate the life and
career of a man who has interviewed
over 2,000 of the most important
cultural figures of the 20th and 21st
centuries.
The event on 27th September – in
which Sir Michael will be interviewed
by his son Mike – will show highlights
from the Parkinson archive and
promises a unique opportunity
to get an intimate, entertaining
and informative look at Michael’s
remarkable journey from a pit village
in Yorkshire to the top of those famous
stairs, whilst reliving the best moments
from a show that for many defined
their Saturday night.
Known primarily for his role as
an interviewer on Parkinson (which
aired from 1971 to 1982 and from 1998
to 2007) Sir Michael is also a prolific
journalist and writer, and has recently
published a memoir of footballing
legend George Best, a paperback
copy of which will be included in the
event’s ticket price.
Now celebrating its fifth year
since its inception, the Jersey Festival
of Words will run across a variety of
island venues between 25th and 29th
September. As ever, the five-day
literary festival will feature talks and
events by visiting and local writers,
as well as writing competitions,
workshops and a comprehensive
schools programme.
Piping Live! Glasgow International Piping Festival and The World Pipe Band
Championships return to Glasgow on 10th-18th August.
It’s the biggest festival of its kind, with some of the hottest names in traditional
music set to perform. Each year attracts over
40,000 music fans, families and tourists from
around the globe to watch more than 5,000
pipers perform at 150 events across the city.
The programme will feature
performances by the very best international
acts, from countries including New Zealand,
Brazil, Canada and, of course, Scotland
and will also see the return of the fiercely-
contested piping competitions. In addition,
there will be daily performances, family fun,
and the hugely-popular Street Café at The
National Piping Centre for the week.
Monk and Pressure Drop, with 2019
also marking the return of King's Cross-
based Two Tribes and Bohem, a Czech
lager brewery from Tottenham.
This year also sees the festival
debut of the world-renowned
Copenhagen restaurant Amass as
Matt Orlando and his team showcase
beers from their new brewery
Broaden & Build. Reflecting their
zero-waste ethos and Matt’s forward-
thinking approach, Broaden & Build
explores how a chef’s perspective
can translate into beer with a focus
on fermentation and foraging.
Beers from the new project will be
arriving on UK shores for the first time,
exclusively for the festival.
