We recently reinforced our commitment
to Wales by jointly celebrating with Cardiff
Airport three successful years of opening
a new aircraft base there. A third Embraer
jet has this summer been added to service
the 124 per cent increase in passengers
and an almost doubling of routes over the
past three-year period.
The milestone was marked by a lively
birthday celebration at the airport with
Regional Sales Manager, Paul Willoughby
(pictured above, right) and Cardiff Airport’s
Financial Director and Company Secretary,

Eastern Airways, a franchise
partner of Flybe, has
reintroduced its summer
flights from Southampton
Airport to Rodez in the south
of France.
Following last year’s
successful programme,
Eastern is providing up
to three flights a week.
Flights take up to 1 hour 40
minutes and depart from
Southampton on Mondays,
Wednesdays and Fridays.

the top three routes, the others being to
Edinburgh and Paris.
We opened our new base at Cardiff
Airport with a 10-year agreement in
June 2015 and the expansion to date
has helped stimulate further growth in
the local economy. This has included job
creation and a contribution to tourism,
with passengers taking advantage of our
wider connecting services from the hub
airports we serve.
Roy Kinnear, Chief Commercial
Officer, said: “Flybe’s strong performance
and increased growth over the past three
years demonstrates our commitment to
the national airport of Wales and we have
continued to fine tune our schedule with
added frequency and new routes.
“We look forward to continued growth
and to providing customers with access to
an even wider choice of routes to and from
Wales. Having such choices to travel to and
from local regional airports is something we
at Flybe consider a necessity, not a luxury.”
Huw Lewis, added: “It has been so
exciting to see just how much Flybe’s base
has gone from strength to strength in
three short years. What started as a two-
aircraft base with a modest selection of
destinations has flourished into a thriving
three-aircraft base with more routes being
added all the time such as Venice, Rome
and Berlin Tegel.”

A new year-round service between
George Best Belfast City and
Doncaster Sheffield Airports has
started, with flights operating five
days a week on Sunday, Monday,
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday..
Chief Commercial Officer, Roy
Kinnear, said: “Doncaster is a new
destination for Flybe from Belfast
and really strengthens our offering
to customers travelling to and from
the recognised ‘Gateway to Yorkshire’.
The airport is conveniently located
just 5km from Doncaster and less
than 30km from Sheffield. The
inaugural flight coincided with the
opening of the Great Yorkshire Way
motorway link road from the M18
which leads directly to the airport.”
