COLOGNE

In a distinctive building resembling

a ship made of glass and metal, the

Chocolate Museum takes you on a

journey through the culture and history

of chocolate. Watch huge mixers churn

Lindt chocolate, and enjoy the enormous

chocolate fountain. You can even take

a piece of the Chocolate Museum

home with you, in the shape of your own

favourite chocolate handcrafted for you

by the Maîtres Chocolatier. Select your

favourite Lindt chocolate and up to four

ingredients and after just 45 minutes, your

personal bar of chocolate is ready to

collect.

CARD I FF

The Potted Pig is an award-winning restaurant housed within a former bank vault

under the city that specialises in contemporary British, European and North American

cuisine. The Potted Pig has rapidly earned itself the reputation of being one of the best

restaurants in Cardiff. In the smouldering surroundings of the bare-walled interior, guests can

enjoy a selection of juicy meat dishes with strong flavours. The Potted Pig menus aren’t

based on any single concept; they simply serve the kind of food they love to cook and eat.

The menu changes on a regular basis, and the kitchen team uses local, seasonal ingredients

where possible. The Potted Pig also supplies a tempting selection of beers, wines and spirits,

with the gin collection being a notable standout, from fruity to spicy, or floral to crisp. You

can expect the likes of Potted Pig, Pickled Carrot & Toasted Sourdough; Cockles, Laverbread

& Bacon on Toast, and Welsh Lamb Cutlets with Crispy Lamb Belly, Onion Purée, Broad Bean

& Pea Fricassee. Desserts include Buttermilk Panna Cotta, Ginger Crumble, Apple Purée &

Apple Crisp; and Set Custard, Whisky Jelly & Cardamom Crumb.

CAEN-NORMANDY

Built around 1060 by William the

Conqueror, the Château de Caen

is now home to the Musée de

Normandie and the Musée des Beaux

Arts. You can also walk around the

ramparts and visit the 12th-century Église

St-Georges and the Échiquier, or the

Exchequer, which dates from about 1100

and is one of the oldest civic buildings

in Normandy. The Jardin des Simples is

planted with medicinal and aromatic

herbs cultivated during the Middle Ages.

Tours of the castle are provided by the

tourist office during summer, but only

in French.

CHAMBÉRY

L’Hôtel des Princes combines the

elegance of a three-star hotel with

the warmth of a family-run business.

Located in the historic centre, this ancient

convent was converted in 1801 and

now offers all the features of a boutique

hotel. The 45 individually-designed and

decorated guestrooms feature free Wi-Fi

and flat-screen TV with satellite channels,

and a buffet breakfast is served in the

restaurant. Guests can unwind in the

state-of-the-art spa, which includes

a Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.
