JERSEY

La Mare Wine Estate is a 20-acre working estate well known for its wines and popular

Jersey Apple Brandy Cream. The central farmhouse, known as Elms Farm, was built by the

De Gruchy family in 1797. The working farm was devoted to apple trees until it gradually

gave way to the twin crops of potatoes and cauliflowers. By 1968, the farm had become

dilapidated and was sold to the Blayney family. They restored the house and reversed its

fortunes, establishing the estate in 1972. Today, La Mare comprises historic buildings and

beautiful gardens, extensive vineyards and orchards, function rooms, a winery, distillery and

estate kitchens which produce some of the island’s legacy recipes, such as Black Butter, a

unique Jersey conserve made with apples, cider, lemons, sugar, liquorice, mixed spice and

cinnamon, and can be spread on toast, and used as an ingredient in a wide range of recipes,

for both sweet and savoury dishes. Tours and tastings of the wines and handmade products are

available daily and guests are invited to enjoy the gardens, vineyard walk, cooperage display

and onsite restaurant offering light lunches and cream teas.
