PERP I GNAN

With its central location on a narrow

lane in a pedestrianised area on the

edge of the old quarter, close to the

shops and restaurants on Quai Sébastien

Vauban, the friendly two-star Hotel de la

Loge makes the perfect base for a break

in Perpignan. It’s small with clean rooms

in either traditional or modern decor and

friendly service – and it’s competitively

priced, too. A wrought-iron staircase

leads from the reception area to the 22

rooms over two floors. There’s a small

bar-restaurant and a patio and garden

to relax in, and continental breakfast is

served in the mornings.

PAR I S

The art world will meet up in Paris from 18th-21st October for Contemporary Art Week. The

art fest gets off to a stunning start with FIAC (Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain),

the prestigious and must-visit international contemporary art fair, which brings together

some of the most famous artists within the elegant halls of the Grand Palais. This year, the

list of galleries taking part brings together exhibitors from 25 countries, including two new

countries – Greece and Peru. In total, some 1,500 artists show their work for the 70,000

spectators to see. The FIAC is also the occasion for an artist residing in France, or of French

origin, to be awarded the prestigious Marcel Duchamp Prize, which brings with it international

recognition. Like all fairs, the FIAC is also a marketplace where the works of art change hands

and professionals meet.

Alongside the main event, other fringe fairs are also organised in various parts of the city

during FIAC. The YIA Art Fair embraces a wide spectrum of the arts, while other events are

more specific: design and art at Art Élysées, digital art at Variation Media Art Fair, outsider art

at the Outsider Art Fair and urban art at 8e Avenue.
