SEPTEMBER

TIME OUT

A TO FLYBE

News and events from around the Flybe destinations, including Roald Dahl celebrations in

Cardi , award-winning chocolate in Perthshire and the 60th BFI London Film Festival…

All eyes will be on Cardiff on the 17th-

18th September, when Wales Millennium

Centre and National Theatre Wales stage

Roald Dahl’s City of the Unexpected, the

capital’s landmark celebration of Wales’

foremost storyteller. You can start planning

your visit now to what promises to be

an extraordinary weekend-long event to

celebrate Roald Dahl’s centenary year.

On Saturday 17th September, Cardiff ’s

city centre will become a place full

of magic – wherever audiences find

themselves, they’ll make extraordinary

discoveries. Featuring a cast of thousands,

there will be unexpected sights,

performances, pop-ups and spectacles

appearing on the streets and in buildings

throughout the city centre, culminating in

a finale that evening.

On Sunday 18th September, audiences

will discover some of Roald Dahl’s

biggest fans reading extracts from his

stories in some unusual and extraordinary

locations across the city centre. And in

the afternoon, large-scale mayhem will

burst out again, with audiences invited

to join an unprecedented mass picnic in

Bute Park – in their pyjamas – and to bring

with them some food inspired by the man

himself. This event will bring together all

the themes, stories, characters and cast of

the weekend in an all-day festival of Dahl-

esque food, music and storytelling.

EDINBURGH

Uncover a secret world of natural edible

possibilities and discover how to identify

edible leaves, fruit and fungi on a new

experience being launched by award-

winning Wedgwood the Restaurant, located

right in the heart of Edinburgh on the

Royal Mile. The bespoke wild foraging

experience around Edinburgh is for parties

of a minimum of 10 people, who will get

to join one of Scotland’s leading chefs, Paul

Wedgwood to uncover Scotland’s natural

larder. As well as picking and foraging for a

variety of edible ingredients, participants will

get to learn more about the provenance of

wild food and partake in some cooking and

dining options, followed by lunch with wine.

Wild foraging is the ultimate in “local”

and “seasonal” produce and is guaranteed

to reawaken your senses so you gain a

greater appreciation of your environment

and the provenance of ingredients.

Add a competitive element for a team-

building experience – battle against the

wilderness and each other to gather a

harvest of foraged ingredients. Back in

the kitchen you’ll have your very own

“MasterChef” competition where each

team will be given a hamper of ingredients

to prepare the finest foraged lunch under

the guidance of Paul, before pairing your

courses with wine from Wedgwood’s

cellar with the help of co-owner Lisa. The

experience costs £150 per person, with a

minimum of 10 people per booking. To
