The Maschsee Lake provides

It’s a perfect place to relax,
go for walks, go jogging,
have picnics and take part
in a variety of watersports.
Try yachting, canoeing and
pedal-boating, or enjoy
the attractions of dry land
at the celebrated Sprengel
Museum Hannover. There is
also an annual festival, the
Maschseefest, each
summer, which includes
musical performances,
cuisine, cabaret and
firework displays.

Enjoy a great family day out
at Hannover’s zoo, where
there are exciting tours, special
events and opportunities to
come face-to-face with various
animals throughout the year.The
zoo is arranged around different
countries and climates – see
the Zambezi boat cruise, whizz
down the toboggan runs, catch
the seal show and polar bears
in the Yukon Bay section, admire
the gorillas and chimpanzees in
the African section and watch
out for the elephants in the
Indian section.There are hourly
shows and feeding times with

Herrenhausen Gardens

The Herrenhausen Gardens are
a famous ensemble of gardens
with historical significance.
The Grosser Garten is one
of the key parts to it, having
been one of the most notable
Baroque formal gardens of
Europe over the years. The
gardens as a collective are
host to a wide range of arts
performances throughout the
year. There is a strong tradition
of music, dance and theatre
at Herrenhausen and this
continues today with theatre,
concerts, festivals, world-class
small-scale performing arts
and fireworks competitions.

Opera House

Hannover’s opera house is said
to be one of the most beautiful
neo-classical buildings of
its kind. Built in 1845-52, it
originally served as the royal
theatre. The new opera house
is a classical-style building
with two large wings and a
balcony with statues of famous
poets and composers. Badly
damaged in the Second World
War, the opera house was
rebuilt in 1948. In September,
operas include Manon Lescaut
by Puccini, and in October,
see The Sold Bride, a comedy
that begins with an arranged
marriage.

Marienburg Castle

Take a guided tour of the
fairy-tale-esque Marienburg
Castle, situated on a hilltop
near the town of Pattensen,
south of Hannover. The
attractive castle was the last
summer residence of the
Guelph Kings of Hannover,
built by King George V in the
mid-19th century as a gift to
his wife Marie. Get a glimpse
behind the scenes on a tour,
walk around and admire the
castle from outside, or see live
music and plays in warmer
months. If you’re looking
for refreshments, there’s a
restaurant in the old coach
house and stables.
