BAR TIME

“Sample one of the mother’s ruin cocktails – our favourite was the classic Ramos Fizz, created

in the 1880s, which tasted like liquid lemon meringue with a massive head of foam on top…”

Rosewood London’s Holborn Dining Room

recently launched its new gin bar, which boasts

over 400 premium brands of the eternally-

popular spirit, making it the largest collection

on offer in London.

Behind the copper-topped bar of the brasserie-

style restaurant (the shrimp burger on a brioche

bun is divine, FYI), rows of shelves harbour the

impressive collection of bottles, ranging from

well-known, high-street staples to smaller-batch

counterparts such as the Italy-inspired VII Hills

(named after Rome’s undulating landscape)

that names artichoke as one of the quirkier

botanicals used, and Zymurgorium, Manchester’s

first original gin, made sweeter than most due to

the use of honey-based vodka in its production.

Pair your chosen gin with one of more than 25

varieties of tonic water, and finish with a garnish

suiting the flavour profile: from tried-and-tested

peels of citrus fruit to more obscure peppercorns,

cinnamon sticks and chillies.

The gin menu is separated into regional

sections, and, for the true connoisseur, there’s

an extra section dedicated to rare, vintage

bottles – some over 50 years old. If choosing

from hundreds of combinations seems a little

daunting, browse the recommended pairings

in the menu, or take a hint from us and ask for

a slug of Finnish Kyrö Napue gin paired with

Square Root Artemisia tonic and balanced with

and herby finish. Alternatively, sample one of

the mother’s ruin cocktails – our favourite was

the classic Ramos Fizz, created in the 1880s,

which tasted like liquid lemon meringue with

that will do, speak to the bartender to have
