NOVEMBER 2018
HAMBURG
26th Nov-23rd Dec
Hamburg’s main
Weihnachtsmarkt is held in
front of the Town Hall with a
large Christmas tree marking
the location. You’ll find
woodcarvers from the Tyrol,
gingerbread bakers from Aachen
and Nuremberg, ceramics from
Lausitz, silversmiths and many
others to tempt you. There’s a
variety of other markets dotted
around the city, too, including
the Ottensen Christmas Village
which extends from Altona
Central Station along the
Mercado shopping centre to
Spritzenplatz, and the market
at the Gänsemarkt which is full
of gingerbread huts – pretty
enough to eat!

DUSSELDORF
22nd Nov-30th Dec
As with all the larger German
cities, there are several
Christmas markets to enjoy,
many concentrated around the
Königsallee (Kö), the designer-
store boulevard shimmering
with Christmas illuminations.
Art nouveau lovers will linger
at the Engelchen market on
Heinrich-Heine-Platz; children
will enjoy the merry-go-round
fun on Schadowstrasse; those
seeking a more traditional feel
will love the stalls set up in
the Marktplatz in front of the
historic town hall.
BERLIN
23rd Nov-31st Dec
You’ll be spoilt for choice
in the German capital, with
around 60 different markets
to choose from. The city’s
main market is held beneath
the Gedächtniskirche and
features food from some of
the country’s top chefs, as
well as entertainment from
jugglers, acrobats, fire artists,
choirs, dance groups and music
ensembles. A 30-minute walk
away is Potsdamer Platz Market,
which features Europe’s largest
mobile toboggan run. The Kaiser
Wilhelm Memorial Church
Market has traditional wooden
huts selling gifts for everyone,
while the Lucia Christmas
Market has a Scandinavian
theme.
STUTTGART
28th Nov-23rd Dec
Around 300 decorated stalls
transform the centre of Stuttgart
into one of Europe’s biggest
and most beautiful Christmas
markets. The Marktplatz,
Schillerplatz and Schlossplatz,
as well as Hirschstrasse and
Kirchstrasse are filled with
stalls offering everything from
Christmas decorations and
toys to candles, hats, and much
more. And to keep hunger at
bay, there’s gingerbread, roasted
almonds and chestnuts, along
with grilled sausages, mulled
wine and punch. Top-class
choirs and musicians perform
nightly in the courtyard of the
Old Palace, with its towering
Christmas tree, and families
love the outdoor skating rink,
miniature steam railway and
Grimm’s fairytale figures.
