VELOCITY

VOYAGE

GADGET

The Üllo wine purifier was

developed by James Kornacki

and boasts the technology

to filter away the majority of

sulphites (preservatives added

to wine and often blamed for

adding a bitter taste and causing

headaches), while allowing

other compounds in wine to flow

through unaffected. The device

also houses an aerator, which

can be twisted on or off, and is

designed to sit on top of a glass

(specially-made carafes and

decanters are also available).

TECH

Coravin

is one of

those rare

inventions

that at first

glance

defies

belief. The

company’s

range of

devices all work in the same way:

a thin, hollow needle pierces

a wine bottle’s cork and then

pumps argon gas through it to

pressurise the bottle. This built-

up pressure then allows wine to

flow out and into a glass, and

as argon is inert, the remainder

of the bottle isn’t affected by

oxygen. When the needle is

removed, the cork reseals itself

like magic.
