A DOOR IN A WALL

London-based murder

mystery specialist A Door In A

Wall stages a range of public

events each year, each offering

wannabe detectives the

chance to put their skills to the

test by immersing themselves

in imaginative and intriguing

plots. A Veiled Threat takes

place every third Tuesday

of the month at The Dead

Doll’s House in Islington, and

invites guests to investigate the shadowy secrets of the Blight family

as daughter Rose prepares to marry. You’re given up to three and a

half hours to sniff out the key characters, complete tasks and piece

together your evidence, and, as the venue is a bar, you can do it with

drink in hand should you wish.

LOCKED IN A ROOM

Next door to London’s ExCeL, Locked in a Room offers two different

escape room experiences, Invisibility Gene and the slightly-less

fiendish Timelock. Both are well crafted, with attention to detail

running throughout, from the plot to the props and décor. There are 13

themed rooms in total (five for Invisibility Gene and eight for Timelock),

with up to six players at a time in each. The total capacity of 78 players

means that Locked in a Room is a great option for corporate team-

building or large parties, and you’ll be able to go head to head with

other teams in a race for freedom. There’s also a 44-person venue in

Bristol, offering the same games.

TIME RUN

Located down an unassuming side street in south Hackney, Time Run

requires a minimum of three people (and maximum of five) to play its

interactive escape challenge. You need to allow around 90 minutes,

with an hour to complete the puzzles and another 25 minutes or so of

immersive theatre at the start and the end. Expect to be greeted by

actors in character from the moment you set foot inside the Victorian

curios-laden waiting room – a time-travelling assistant will explain to

you who Luna Fox is and why she needs your help in recovering a

dangerous artifact that's been lost in time. Teamwork and a cool head

under pressure will be essential if you’re to figure out the mystery

before time’s up.
